Swings Open in Both Directions for Convenience
For convenience, the gate swings open in both directions. You can also choose to use an optional third lock at the base of the gate to control the direction that the gate opens. It allows you to set the door to open in either direction or locks both ways to prevent it from opening at all. This feature adds another safety measure for places like the top of the stairs.
Adjustable Fit for Use Anywhere in Your Home
This 29-1/2-inch-high gate can accommodate openings from 29-1/2 to 35 inches wide so it can be used throughout your house. For versatility, the gate includes one 2-3/4-inch extension. The Easy-Close can also extend up to 54 inches wide with the addition of 5-1/2-inch and 11-inch extensions, which are available separately. With our old gate, everytime you wanted to go into the kitchen, you either had to step over the plastic gate, or remove it and reinstall it EVERY time....such a pain. I wanted something that could stay installed but still would allow us easy access to the kitchen. This gate does just that, and does it BEAUTIFULLY. I went with this gate over the other walk-thrus since it has the widest opening and my husband is a big guy (6'8). It installed in just a few minutes and seems really sturdy. My toddler loves it because he can see through the bars, and I love it because it looks so much nicer than our old one. My favorite aspect of this gate is that you can leave the "door" of the gate in the open position if you need to, and simply close it to keep the baby out. This gate was my latest purchase and it is a winner! For me, a good gate is one that my kids can't figure out how to open. My favorite gate of all time is the Evenflo Simple Effort which they no longer make. My six year old just figured out how it works this year, but is now old enough to know not to touch the gate. I have the Dreambaby gate and my four year old knows how to lift it and open it. The Munchkin gate works the same as the Dreambaby in that you pull the top tab back while lifting the gate, but while the dreambaby gate is super easy to lift and open, the munchkin takes a bit of strength to lift and open. This is perfect for my needs as it will keep that room off limits for much longer. It is also self closing which is nice.
